It may have been a few weeks ago that Leeds once again grabbed the headlines for their off-field antics, but the Whites are yet to find a replacement for David Hockaday.
After six league games the club have seven points, and although this isn’t a disastrous tally, somebody to steady the ship and get things moving in the right direction would obviously be of benefit.
With Leeds still a big club, despite their calamities in recent years, there are candidates to come in and work under Massimo Cellino, and here are five we think could be worth a punt…

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Having impressed during his playing days at Leeds, Hasselbaink could be a feel good addition for the club. The Dutchman recently left Royal Antwerp after a brief spell as their manager, where he cut his teeth in the world of coaching.
A lack of experience could see the former strike sensation caught out in the Championship, but his presence would command respect. Hasselbaink wants the job and it could do much for the status of black managers in England to have him in charge of one of the country’s most historic sides.
Robbie Fowler
Another former player to have weighed into the running for the Leeds post is Fowler. The former Liverpool star spent just 14 months playing at Elland Road during his successful career, but his managerial record is far from illustrious.
Fowler has only coached Muangthong United in Thailand, for whom he also played, which is some way, obviously, short of the CVs other candidates boast. The Liverpudlian would be a box office name to take charge of the club and would attract much attention across the country, which may appeal to Cellino as he sets about rebuilding the club.
Roberto Di Matteo
Having been out of managerial work since 2012, Di Matteo may be a bit rusty, but he certainly proved himself in the Premier League. Despite impressing with West Brom and Chelsea, the Italian has been unable to get a look in as other names have moved ahead to take the jobs in the top tier, which may tempt him into the Championship.
Cellino could be keen to work with his compatriot, who has shown an ability to get the best from promising players in the past.
Steve Clarke
The bookies’ favourite, Clarke would appear to be a safe pair of hands after a decent spell at West Brom. The former Liverpool and Chelsea coach may expected a managerial job in the top tier by now, so a dip down to the Championship might be his best option to get his career back on track.
Somebody to steady the ship is needed, but will Cellino be tempted by the Scot?
Paolo Di Canio
Now this would be a story! Di Canio has taken the controversy that followed him in his playing days into management, with spells at Swindon and Sunderland having been a mix of success and madness.
Di Canio could be the sort of name to get pulses racing at Elland Road, which could lure in Cellino. Oh, and there’s also the Italian connection, too.
