It appears the Allan Saint-Maximin injury may well be a myth, according to an exclusive via the Daily Mail. Sky Sports’ Keith Downie revealed yesterday the 22-year-old is suffering from a back and hamstring injury and is a major doubt for the FA Cup tie tonight.
Craig Hope however reports that Saint-Maximin’s future at St. James’ Park is in doubt, with multiple sources insisting the French winger is match fit and ready to play, despite Steve Bruce claiming he is still a doubt for the game against West Bromwich Albion.
Since joining Newcastle from French side Nice in the summer on a six-year contract, the attacking midfielder has made 19 appearances overall for the Magpies, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist according to data provided by WhoScored.com. Saint-Maximin has become a real fan favourite with lots of the Toon Army and has gained a reputation as a speedy dribbler, completing on average just over 4 dribbles per game (per WhoScored).
Unsurprisingly, plenty of Newcastle fans have weighed in on the latest shocking revelation, with many pointing the finger at Bruce. The Magpies currently sit just five points away from the drop zone and have only won 1 game in their past 10 league matches.
Given the current state of the squad and the obvious lack of a goal-scoring threat up front, it’s hard to see the logic behind dropping an attacking player with rapid pace. So, with that in mind, here’s a look at some of the reaction online.
